Visit this site to read an article from the FDA Consumer Magazine about laser eye surgery to correct vision problems. You will learn what types of vision problems can be corrected by laser eye surgery. Occasionally the vision through corrective lenses is actually worse after refractive or laser eye surgery than it was before. It usually has no effect on the final outcome of vision after laser eye surgery and can only be seen through an eye examination. Most patients notice improved vision within a few days after LASIK laser eye surgery.

LASIK laser eye surgery is can cause a loss of “best” vision with or without glasses at 1 year after surgery. Night vision treatment has become possible thanks to advances in laser eye surgery. LASIK refractive eye surgery provides vision correction by reshaping the cornea and changing its focusing power through the use of a laser. Improving vision without laser eye surgery. Accuvision provides laser eye surgery, laser vision correction and laser … This includes eye mapping, vision testing and medications related to the laser surgery. LASIK laser eye surgery patients often have good vision by the day after surgery. LASIK, or laser in-situ keratomileusis, is the most widely performed laser eye surgery for treating a wide range of common vision errors. Most reputable centers for eye laser surgery note that 20/20 vision from laser-corrected surgery may not be like 20/20 vision with corrective lenses.

This type of laser eye surgery is used to treat patients who have failed to respond to other types of surgery. However, if the eye disease manifests itself, there is one type of laser eye surgery that can be used: laser photocoagulation.

This guide provides an in-depth understanding of the laser eye surgery procedure, what can be expected, and possible complications. All in all, laser eye surgery is a potent procedure to correct a variety of refractive errors thereby enhancing a patient%u2019s visual acuity.

The Wavefront laser procedure is carried out using computer aided equipment and doctors have reported improved eyesight results from Wavefront over traditional LASIK surgery.

With an exact map of the eye, they could precisely plan laser correction surgery, or create customized contact lenses, Olivier said. Bausch Lomb spokesperson Holly Houston said that the company is considering applications for both customized laser eye surgery and customized contact lenses. Around 100,000 people, tired of wearing glasses or contact lenses, undergo corrective laser eye surgery in the UK every year. Many people who have always worn glasses or contact lenses are now contemplating whether or not to have laser eye surgery. For some people, laser eye surgery means freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

Medication following laser surgery In most cases, medications are still necessary to control and maintain eye pressure. Long-term benefits of glaucoma laser surgery Glaucoma laser surgeries help to lower the intraocular pressure (IOP) in the eye. When laser surgery does not successfully lower eye pressure, or the pressure begins to rise again, the doctor may recommend filtering microsurgery.

have always been at the forefront of laser eye surgery earning an enviable reputation as THE clinic to … I’m hoping to get a referral for the laser eye surgery center affiliated w/my eye doctor’s clinic.
India offers cutting edge Plastic Surgery for everything from Face-lift to Neck contouring. Indian Health care industry is undergoing phenomenal expansion. The combination of high quality services and low cost facilities is attracting thousands of international patients every year. This is hardly surprising considering the cost of cosmetic surgeries in India is 5 to 6 times lower than anywhere else in the world. When compared to other popular countries; India has the advantage of hospital facilities, experienced doctors and cost. Compared to Thailand, India on average is 50% cheaper and when compared to South Africa a sixth the cost.

WHAT IS PLASTIC SURGERY?

Plastic surgery is a specialized branch of surgery that deals with correction of all visible defects and deformities of any body part. Such deformities may be present since birth or acquired following injuries or after various surgical procedures. These defects commonly involve the skin, soft tissues, muscles or underlying skeleton. Plastic surgery is also done to improve the looks or aesthetics of normal body parts such as face, nose, eyes, cheeks, lips, chin, breasts, the shape and contours of abdomen, waist, hips, legs etc. Thus, plastic surgery has a very wide domain.

WHO REQUIRES PLASTIC SURGERY?

Any person of any age irrespective of cast, creed and socioeconomic status suffering from any of the following may be the candidate for plastic surgery:

1. BIRTH OR CONGENITAL DEFECTS

Abnormal shape of the head or skull, clefts of the lips, palate or the face. Defects or abnormal shape of the eyes, nose, ears, jawbones etc. Defects of the limbs, fused fingers, extra fingers, large sized fingers and toes. Defects of the genitals such as hypospadias i.e. abnormal shape of the penis with abnormal urinary opening, absence of vagina, inter sex etc. Large black hairy nevus or moles, haemangiomas and vascular lesions. Foetal defect correction in utero i.e. before birth endoscopic correction of some defects inside the mother’s womb.

2. ACCIDENTS & INJURIES

Several roadside and automobile accident injuries involving face, eyelids, nose, ears etc. All cases with fractures of orbital, cheek nose and jawbones. Injuries of the limbs associated with extensive skin loss or degloving injuries. All types of hand and finger injuries especially industrial crush injuries. Cut tendons and nerves, total or partial amputations of the limbs, hands or fingers also can be corrected by plastic surgery.

3. BURN INJURIES

Acute burns due to flames, chemicals and acids, hot water or fluids, electric flash. Post burn contractures, thick hypertrophic scars causing deformities of several body parts.

4. POST SURGERY DEFECTS

Following extensive removal of various parts or areas involved in malignant or cancerous growths such as breasts, jaws, lips, mandible etc.

5. SKIN DEFECTS

Treatment of vitiligo or leucoderma (white) patches, removal of tattoo marks, split ear lobules.

6.COSMETIC OR AESTHETIC SURGERY

For the removal of facial wrinkles, forehead wrinkles, heaviness around eyelids, baggy eyelids, crow’s feet wrinkles, peri oral wrinkles, jowls, and double chin. Lifting up of the eyebrows, nose job or changing the shape of the nose, cheek and chin alterations all can be done by plastic surgery. Thinning or augmenting lips, creation of dimples, reshaping ears, breast reduction or enhancement, breast lifting can be done by plastic surgery. Reshaping arms and legs, body contouring surgery for loose hanging belly, waist, hips, buttocks and thighs can be done by plastic surgery. Removal of pregnancy stretch marks, laser assisted facial rejuvenation and hair transplant are all procedures that come under plastic surgery.

Benefits of Plastic Surgery:

The great thing about plastic surgery is that the benefits can be both physical and emotional, both external and internal. The physical and external benefits of plastic surgery can be multi-faceted. The first thing that many people notice after plastic surgery is that their bodies seem more proportional or balanced. Whether a person opts to have surgery on their face, hips, breasts or thighs the aim is to sculpt the body in a way that looks natural. The result often allows people to look more like they feel like they should look. This may sound strange, but often a nose that is too large for a particular person’s face or a bust that is too large or too small can blur all of this person’s other features making them seem disproportionate. Surgeons aim to correct this by taking each individual’s body into consideration before deciding on a desired result.

The physical result of plastic surgery often produces a healthier look and often people who undergo surgery see this healthy look permeate their entire lifestyle. People who have surgeries like liposuction and breast reduction usually feel that their new bodies allow them to participate in physical activities that they wouldn’t have considered before surgery. Plastic surgery can open new doors to people who had previously lived their lives scared to take on activities like swimming or aerobics because of the lack of clothing involved and the way that they felt that they would be looked at by other people.

Blending in is sometimes quite important to people who decide to have plastic surgery, especially when they have grown up teased because of their features. Surgery often allows these people to finally feel like they fit in with people around them instead of sticking out because of the shape of their body or because of their facial features.

Whether a person chooses to undergo plastic surgery to improve their lifestyle or to improve their look there will always be emotional benefits when a person is finally able to feel comfortable in their body. Many people find that they are more outgoing, personable and confident when they become accustomed to their transformation and this heightened sense of self-esteem can be a benefit that lasts a lifetime.

Risks of Plastic Surgery:

Although complications from plastic surgery are quite rare nowadays each person who is considering having this type of surgery done should make themselves aware of the possible risks of plastic surgery. Plastic surgery complications can range from scarring to fatalities and the effects of surgery can sometimes be traumatizing to patients both physically and psychologically. Even though complications are uncommon it is important to keep plastic surgery dangers in mind. The risks of plastic surgery will differ depending on the individual and the procedure they opt for. Scarring is one of the most common risks that people considering plastic surgery should be aware of. Most surgeons will try to hide incision lines in places where they aren’t noticeable, like under the crease of the breast in breast augmentation plastic surgery and in the hairline in facial plastic surgery, but most surgeries will still result in permanent scarring.

Cost of Plastic Surgery

No, plastic surgery is not very costly. The expenses involved for any procedure depends upon the institution, the infrastructure required, material used, and nature of the procedure, anesthesia and the operating surgeon. As compared to most other superspecialities, a routine plastic surgery procedure requires minimal instrumentation and infrastructure but high degree of innovative surgical skill.

Plastic Surgery in India:

If you need any medical treatments (from Plastic to heart surgery) the cost of these in Inida is far cheaper than in the US or Europe. So, you can have treatments done in Inida , get world class treatments, get a free holiday and have cash left over! India offers what you call a language advantage – a patient would surely prefer a country where English is widely spoken. Also, it is believed that the facilities in India are more suited for International patients. Many highly qualified doctors have had some form of training from abroad, especially USA and UK. Indian surgeons and doctors are known for their skill and research throughout the world. Most patients from countries like USA and UK travel to developing countries such as India for treatment because India offers some of te cheapest pricing options of treatment, offers a good holiday, there are no waiting lists or queues to stand in, the doctors are comparable to anyone in the world and finally, language does not pose a problem as most people speak English.

What is Plastic Surgery?
In recent years developments in science and technology have brought about significant changes to the world in which we live. One such change has been the introduction of plastic surgery into mainstream life, having grown from being the preserve of the rich and famous to being an increasingly accepted option for ordinary people.

Plastic surgery is a special branch of surgery that deals with the medical correction of a person’s form and structure. While plastic surgery deals mainly with aesthetic surgery, there are also several other types of surgery that come under this domain, such as the different fields of surgery to the cranio-facial region, hand surgery, surgery to correct skin damage caused by burns, and some forms of microsurgery.

The History of Plastic Surgery
The word plastic comes from the Greek word plastikos which means “to mold” or “to shape”. So, plastic surgery basically means surgery that brings about a re-shaping of a part of the body. Although plastic surgery is generally regarded as being a recent scientific wonder, in fact its history goes back the time of Sushruta in India around the year 700 BC.

In Rome, plastic surgery existed even in the 1st century BC. However because of the dangers involved with this type of surgery, especially when it involves the face or the head regions, it was not until recently, that plastic surgery became more common for the general population.

Different Procedures involved in Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery often involves a skin graft, whereby doctors take skin from one part of the body, and then graft it onto the area where it is needed. This can involve a number of steps, including different types of grafting like allografting, where the graft comes from another human, and xenografting, where the graft comes from an animal of a different species.

The Difference Between Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery
People have a tendency to confuse plastic surgery with cosmetic surgery, but there is actually a difference between the two. Cosmetic surgery is in fact a sub-specialty of plastic surgery, and refers to surgery which is carried out purely for cosmetic purposes. The most common procedures for cosmetic surgery include abdominoplasty (also known as a “tummy tuck”), and blepharoplasty, which is a reshaping of the eyelids. Cosmetic surgery can be useful in helping to minimize scars and wrinkles. In recent years, people have gone to have plastic surgery done in countries where the fees are lower than in their own countries.

The Growing Significance Of Plastic Surgery In Recent Years
In recent years, people worldwide seem to be increasingly aware of their body image, and more people are in search of the perfect body. So plastic surgery offers solutions to people’s problems if they feel that their own body falls short of perfection, and more and more people are sorting out what they feel are their bodily imperfections. In particular, in the field of plastic surgery there has been a tremendous demand for cosmetic surgery and liposuction. In most countries nowadays it is possible to find plastic surgery at quite affordable rates. The affordable rates bring plastic surgery more within the reach of ordinary people, so that plastic surgery is now becoming more common.

The NRI community from all over the world has opted to choose surgery tourism in India for health recovery at cheap price. The word surgery tourism in India here means traveling to India for health recovery and touring famous Indian destinations after or before getting the surgery. People of Indian & Asian origin in countries like, U.S.A, U.K, Oman, U.A.E and Saudi Arabia and Europe feel safe in the hands of Indian Doctors, because Indian doctors have proved themselves in providing excellent healthcare services in the field of obesity surgery, plastic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, dental surgery spine surgery and infertility treatment and have made NRI’s happy with the results. With world class health facilities, zero waiting time and most importantly one tenth of medical costs spent in the U.S or U.K, India is becoming a preferred medical tourism destination and also matching the medical treatment services NRI’s prefer India because it is affordable cost medical treatment options as compared to treatment available in their own resident destinations. Private hospitals are making deliberate efforts to attract medical tourists for better profits. The ministry of health and family welfare including medical tourism industry in India have set up a task force to design a strategy for health tourism. However, popularity of modern Indian healthcare is no more a secret. India has been offering updated surgical methods for health benefit to both international and domestic patients.

NRI’s are traveling to Indian medical locations and modernized surgery hospitals of Chennai, Goa, Delhi and Mumbai to get health recovery, in increasing number. The most commonly sought medical procedures in India include weight loss surgery or obesity surgery, heart surgery, orthopedic surgery, cosmetic surgery and dental treatment with infertility surgery. The reason, India is a favorable international medical destination is because it’s infrastructure and technology is par with the top medical centers in the U.S.A, U.K and Europe. India has one of the best hospitals and treatment centers in the world with the best facilities. India is promoting the “high-tech healing” of its private healthcare sector as a state-of-the-art. Indian hospitals at metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai have established world-class expertise in practices such as cardiac care, cosmetic surgery, orthopaedic surgery and dentistry. Indian hospitals have expertise in both surgical and rejuvenation procedure, robotic surgery which was a dream once, Indian doctors had made it true and possible in India. NRI patients in developed countries are looking overseas for medical treatment like cosmetic surgery, cardiac bypass surgery, hair transplant surgery, obesity surgery, cancer surgery, infertility treatment and spine surgery. India is capitalizing on its low cost medical services and highly trained doctors to appeal to these “international medical travelers.” Even with airfare, the cost of going for an international surgery is markedly cheaper, and the quality of services is often better than that found in the United States and U.K. Surgery tourism, an unexplored segment in India, brings about one and half lakh tourists to India each year for advanced surgery, this figure is increasing each year.

Indian doctors have excellent qualifications and skills like their counterparts in the U.K, Australia and U.S. A recent article in “India Today” quoted that Indian hospitals and doctors have become the health care destination for foreigners. When you can get world class orthopedic surgery in Chennai at half the cost as in the West, or even in the Gulf, then it is certainly cost effective. For e.g.: A total knee replacement in some of the private hospitals in the Gulf costs about 50,000 U.A.E Dirhams (17 000 U.S$). The same treatment can be provided in India for less then three fourths of the cost. Abroad natives come to India for health recovery as well as visiting the cultural heritage of India this is termed as ‘medical tourism’. Another peculiarity is reversal of tourist traffic from developed nations to third world for cheaper treatment. But it is confusing how a sick person can be on a holiday and enjoy leisure like any other tourist. Ignoring this fundamental question, surgery tourism also called medical tourism is widely opted by NRIs to get standard healthcare at low cost.
Lasik surgery aims at improving vision of people by the means of laser surgery. Loads of people are reported to have undergone this surgery and were usually happy with the outcome. Patients allowed to undergo this surgery include patients with incorrect or reduced vision problems; have little or even no health concerns in the past. Preparations prior the surgery is an important part of the process and should not be neglected at all. Briefly speaking there are five prohibited actions that should not be practiced during the preparation prior the surgery.

Like any other surgeries, patients are expected to have an appropriate preparation beforehand. While eating or drinking prior some surgeries is allowed, Lasik surgery has got it own conditions that need to be considered as well. A good preparation will only pave the way for the most interesting result following the surgery.

There are also some post-operative care instructions that need to be addressed: The first thing to note is that patients should not forget about these instructions as they are crucial to the success of the surgery. Before heading to the operation room, you should book an appointment with your eye practitioner to make sure these instructions will be carried out. You are strongly advised to meet your eye practitioner at least once a week within three months after the surgery. These meetings are designed to make sure that your eyes are healed and healthy after the surgery. These meetings are crucial to the successful completion of the surgery.

Another thing you should do is to think about your own transportation: You should secure your travel back home after the surgery. You may need to book a return journey going from your house to the hospital. Remember that you should not drive before three hours after the surgery. You should always arrange the transportation and the well being of your kids after you have undergone the surgery. In case you have children do not forget to secure their own transportation and care after your surgery. You are strongly advised not to come with your children at the surgery center. You should also arrange care for all your children throughout the surgery. Remember, you may be required to take some days off if you are doing some special kinds of jobs requiring physical activity or the usage of your eyes. You should make sure that your employer is aware of the situation.

You are not allowed to carry out with you any make-up or cologne: Although the policy differs from surgery centers to surgery centers, as a rule of thumb patients are strongly recommended not to wear any make-up such lipstick and facial creams for up to three days before the surgery is supposed to take place. There should not be any reminder of any make-up on the day of the surgery. Many practitioners are very likely to cancel the surgery if you have any make-up on your face. This is because of possible contaminants that can enter into your eye and increasing possibilities of eye infections. You should also not wear any cologne or perfume on the day of the surgery. In addition, you should not wear any hair products containing alcohol on the surgery day. These products are well known for their effects to change the result of the surgery.

As perfection is not from this world, you should not expect to have a flawless vision after the surgery. Although the main target of the surgery is to improve your vision sometimes things may go wrong so beware! Most people have enjoyed a 20/40 outcome with the Lasik surgery. It is very likely that the surgery will lessen your dependence on eyeglasses but will not completely eradicate it.

As a general, you should make sure you perfectly risks, benefits of the surgery beforehand.

The final thing you should not do is to forget or neglect the risks associated with the surgery: It is believed that many patients undergo the surgery without the necessary knowledge about the so-called surgery. You should also have full eye examinations beforehand in order to make sure you are a good candidate of the Lasik surgery. There are some factors that can make you a bad candidate of the surgery: eye diseases, autoimmune disease. Recall that you may need further surgeries or enhancements after the surgery. These can take place up to three months after the Lasik surgery and of course there may be an overhead associated with these. Things can get worse so again you know these things before giving your consent.

No doubt you’ve been reading a lot more about lap band surgery, adjustable gastric band surgery and gastric bypass surgery in the past few years than ever before. Although weight loss surgery has been around for many years, newer procedures and techniques have made it safer and more common. However there are many risks of lap band surgery, complications and side effects to be aware of.

If you’ve been thinking about a gastric banding procedure to lose weight, such as lap band surgery, which is a safer alternative than permanent gastric bypass surgery, you may be wondering what the health risks are or what possible complications can develop from this procedure.

When doing your research online you’ll no doubt read on the lap band websites that are promoting lap band surgery some of the risks and complications but you need to find out all of the risks and possible complications. You’ll also want to know what side effects to expect and if you can handle these. And will you lose weight and if so at what pace?

Of course one of the best ways is to read articles like this and to go to lap band forums where you can discuss your concerns. You particularly want to find forums that are comprised of people who have had lap band surgery and see what they have to say, good and bad, and what testimonials you can find.

Any surgery can be risky and many have more risks than others. In any event elective surgery is always something that should not be taken lightly. As a nurse I’ve been present at many surgeries and although most of the surgeries go well, there are those that have complications. If a patient is obese or overweight or are carrying a lot of extra fat tissue, there can be some serious health problems present that may or may not be evident or known about and may have serious health consequences regardless of the type of surgery the patient is having.

Some of the risks to be concerned about are those that are general to any surgery and are influenced by your age, weight, how you react to the anesthesia and what diseases you may have and whether they’re related to your weight problem or not. I won’t go into all the risks of general surgery here but focus on the specifics risks and complications for lap band surgery.

The biggest risk of lap band surgery is the possibility of gastric perforation during the surgery, which happens in about one percent of the surgeries. Gastric perforation is a tear in the wall of the stomach.

Following lap band surgery there are numerous complications that can develop over the next few months or so. These can range from the lesser mild to more serious. Directions after surgery must be followed closely, as solid food eaten too early can cause a medical emergency. This mistake is made if the weight loss surgery patient eats solid food in the day or two after surgery or if they have traveled to Mexico or another country and fly home soon after surgery and think it’s okay to indulge a little. Make sure you understand the lap band diet and understand liquid food and solid food restrictions.

Side effects can affect many patients such as nausea and vomiting and some will experience regurgitation. Some patients will find that the band has slipped and it’ll need to be adjusted and some find that the passage is blocked between the two sections of the banded stomach.

The extended list of risks include ulceration, gastritis, which is irritated or inflamed stomach tissue, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux), which is regurgitation, heartburn, bloating from flatulence (gas), difficulty swallowing, dehydration, constipation, regaining of weight and rarely death but needs to be mentioned. If the surgery is done laparoscopically rather than a full open surgery then there are other problems that can develop such as liver damage or spleen damage (requiring removal of the spleen), damage to the blood vessels, lung problems, blood clots, the rupture of the incision and perforation of the esophagus or stomach during surgery.

Following surgery there are problems that can develop with the lap bad system type of gastric banding and they include: a deflating of the band causing leakage, which can come from the tubing band or the reservoir, slippage of the band or stomach, an enlargement of the pouch and the stomach outlet can be blocked, or the band can erode directly into the stomach.

Be aware that the cost of lap band surgery may rise if you have after-surgery and ongoing complications that are not fully covered under your health insurance plan or affect your pocketbook if you are paying cash out of your pocket. So you want to research this also.

Although lap band surgery is typically done laparoscopically, in some cases the surgeon may have to switch to a more open method of surgery, which has happened in about 5% of the cases as reported in a U.S. clinical study.

Make sure that you completely understand all the risks of lap band surgery and adjustable gastric banding and discuss them fully with your bariatric or weight loss surgeon before undergoing this surgery. Although safer than the more permanent gastric bypass surgery it does come with risks, possible complications and side effects. What is not known are the long term effects of this surgery. This is true whenever you tamper with nature. So it’s better to be safe than sorry. Make sure you do plenty of research before you commit.
