Help answer the question about surgery

How close to surgery time should I eliminate alchohol from my diet?
My doctor was kind of vague on this point. He just said don't drink "before surgery." My surgery isn't for another couple of months.

Yes but use surgery as a las resort. My mom battled sinusitis for years and she has had 4 sinus surgeries. She now has no sense of smell and can only taste sensations. Salty, sweet, and bitter. If you can avoid the surgery….do it!!! Oh and one more thing….she still gets a number of sinus infections every year.

Sinus surgery involves enlarging the sinus cavities so that you can breathe a bit better but it does not really overcome the problem of overactive mucus glands. Surgery is not a real solution as the problem is in the glands.

Mucus generating dairy products should be avoided and can be replaced with soy milk.

The two natural antibiotics colloidal silver and (odorless) garlic oil capsules every day also help.

Apple cider vinegar every day helps as well.

Nasal sprays and prescription antibiotics and other prescription medication only give you a bit of short term relief and don't overcome the problem either and nasal sprays can actually damage your sinuses.

call / visit your doc. a little blood is normal, but if you're having a lot there might be a problem.

About six weeks, M. You'll probably have a lot of facial bruising and you won't be blowing your nose for a few days. That being said, it will be worth
it, they will give you some fine meds, take as directed. There is nothing worse than going to the ENT every 6 months to have your sinuses roto-rootered. Good luck tomorrow and I will be thinking of you. CS

Your doctor must decide this. Generally, you can go home after 4 or 5 hours after surgery, but the doctor might think that due to your condition it is better to stay overnight. If you are diabetic, have a hearth condition, asthma, etc. he/she might think that is better to stay. Better be safe than sorry.

You'd have to ask your doctor. As long as it's not very invasive, I'd imagine that you'd only need enough time to get over anesthesia, and then maybe take it easy for a couple days at camp (no balls flying at your face, etc.).

One huge one is the loss of the sense of smell and taste. Make sure your surgeon knows EXACTLY what they are doing and follow post op orders.

I don't think you have to worry about that, but breathing may be difficult. Your natural body defense will make everything run out of your nose. Wash hands, keep drinking lots of fluids, gently blow your nose if you have to, but you do not want to put anything in your nose until it heals (at least a month). I would suggest that if you have a recliner chair, make it your bed for the month as it will prevent you from drowning in your fluids while you sleep (if you can, but you will when you're tired).
