Pennsylvania Health Insurance : Uninsured Helping Pennsylvanians since 2005 : EasyToInsureME
Some states in the US require that all citizens of their state be covered for Health Insurance. Pennsylvania is one of the states that allows PA citizens to receive Free Pennsylvania Health Insurance. There are 2 free health insurance programs CHIP for children and AdultBasic for adults. However a Pennsylvania resident must qualify first.
Do you Qualify for CHIP see income charts and apply now at EasyToInsureMe.com

SO, HOW DO I SIGN UP for CHIP?
You’re ready to apply – great! Before you do, you will need the following information handy to apply:
- Income amounts for your entire household before taxes – this includes income from employment and all other forms of income (for example – social security, pension, workers compensation, unemployment, child support, etc)
- Social Security Numbers and birthdates for all applicants
- Day care expenses for your household (if any)
- Work transportation expenses for your household (if any)
- Private health insurance information (if you have or had private health insurance in the last six months)
- Car insurance card information (if you have car insurance)
SO, HOW DO I SIGN UP for AdultBasic?
Recognizing the need to provide quality healthcare coverage that is accessible and affordable to the Commonwealths uninsured adult population, adultBasic was launched in 2002 to cover the basic healthcare needs of Pennsylvanians age 19-64 who have no health insurance and who meet certain eligibility requirements.
We are proud to have already covered over 90,000 Pennsylvanians with adultBasic. You may be eligible to take advantage of the benefits that adultBasic has to offer. Find out if you qualify by accessing the links below. You’ll be glad you did.

Help answer the question about health insurance
How does health insurance work in the US?
I am a non-US citizen and need this information to do a case.
Specifically:
1) Is health insurance compulsory for everyone?
2) What happens if someone cannot afford it?
3) In the event that a medical procedure needs to be done, does health insurance cover all the bills? Does the patient need to pay anything extra?
4) Does the patient have any say over what kind of procedure he can take? Say if 2 treatments are available for his condition, can the patient choose the more expensive treatment? And if so, is it covered by the insurance?
Thanks for reading this. Your help in answering any part of the questions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks to those who have responded so far.
I would like to further ask:
Does a health insurance contract state that it will only cover the "normal" rates for a procedure? For eg. if there are 2 possible treatments for a disease, 1 of which is more expensive but more effective than the other, will the patient only be covered by the LESS expensive one?
Or is it a case in which the patient can opt for the more expensive one and "top-up" the difference?
This is a crucial question to my understanding the case. Thanks!

You need to visit a local independent agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can work with you to find the best plan for your situation and budget.
You said you have medical issues. Depending upon what those issues are you may have a problem finding a company that will accept you. If they do, there will be waivers, riders, or waiting periods before the company will cover those issues. This is why you need an agent. The agent can talk with the underwriters from the different companies to find out what the possible underwriting decision may be.
There is no one best health insurance company. The best company for you is the company you want to go with. Nobody here can tell you which company is best for you because we don't know you or your health issues.

Not unless your divorce/support/custody agreement says so.
The law does not require it.
Once your son is 18, he's an adult.
You can't have it both ways.

There are about 88 choices on eHealthInsurance. It really depends
on your individual pre existing conditions and how low you want
your co-pay to be. Another low cost option for you
is to supplement your insurance with my Simple Card
which would most likely accept you with preexisting conditions.

Rendell is a blithering idiot. He ruined Philadelphia as mayor. The state had to take over the school district down there because he gave more money to teachers for doing less work. The kids could pass a simple test.
He promised tax breaks for everyone when he legalized gambling. I have yet to see one. He is the epitome of everything wrong with the democratic party. Tax and spend, tax and spend.
It is no wonder he is giving state taxpayer funded health care to people who truly do not need it.
Way to go voters of PA. You put this jerk in for another four years.

If you can take advantage of this program, go ahead. Look at all these welform people living off the gov't for years. It is not the people it is the system. They should put stoppers in their program to stop misuse.

There’s not really such a thing as insurance for pre-existing conditions, but the good news is that it’s much easier to find help these days. Your best chance is to join a group health plan, such as one you get through work. If you were under a group health plan, you should be protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in this circumstance. Under HIPPA, you should be able to credit the time you were covered under the old group plan against the waiting period of the new group plan – as long as you haven’t gone more than 63 days without coverage. Call your old health plan and get them to send you your certificate of creditable coverage. You might also want to call the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance (link below).
If you haven’t been treated for your condition, you may not have as much difficulty finding affordable health insurance as you might think. Even if something is wrong, your health problem may not be one of the conditions that they exclude coverage for at the beginning of a health plan.
You might also try support organizations for your condition. Needy Meds (link below) is a clearinghouse for such organizations.
If you can’t find employment with group health insurance, then your best bet is to talk with Pennsylvania-licensed health insurance agents. Talk with more than one because that will give you a better perspective on your choices. It also encourages a little healthy competition for your business. Check out MostChoice.com. I work there and their system is simple. You fill out a short form and review online quotes from health plans in your area. Then, within two days, locally licensed agents contact you to talk about your health care needs and what you’d like to pay for insurance. You just wait until one of the agents delivers a health plan you like. There’s no cost or obligation to buy insurance, and your personal information is used only to match you with local health plans and agents.
