How to prevent swine flu

Wash your hands

Basic way of preventing getting infected is washing your hands frequently, especially after coughing or sneezing. You can use soap and water, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective. Hand sanitizers can be used when water isn’t available.

Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth

Germs spread when you touch your eyes, nose or mouth after touching something that’s contaminated.

Avoid close contact with sick people

If possible, avoid contact with possibly infected people. Avoid crowds. Swine flu spreads mainly when people cough or sneeze.

Avoid travel

Try to limit traveling, especially to high risk areas such as Mexico. If you’ve been to Mexico and have flu like symptoms visit a doctor.

Wear facemask or respirator

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing facemask in crowded settings to prevent getting infected and to not infect others. Respirator should be used if you have close contact with infected person (for example you’re caring of sick person at home).

Antiviral drugs

Swine influenza A (H1N1) is sensitive to Oseltamivir (sold under name Tamiflu) and Zanamivir (sold as Relenza). They are effective means of swine flu prevention and treatment. If taken for treatment, Tamiflu and Relenza are most effective if taken within 2 days after illness started. They are also effective for prevention if given to healthy person that had contact with infected people. Antiviral drugs are 70% to 90% effective means of flu prevention. According to CDC, number of days they should be used to prevent H1N1 influenza varies depending on each person’s situation.

Vaccine

Influenza A (H1N1) vaccine isn’t available yet, WHO and CDC are working on it.

Stay home if you feel sick

CDC recommends to stay at home for 7 days after symptoms begin or until you are symptom-free for 24 hours to not spread infection further.

Take care of your health

Sleep well, be active, manage stress, drink lots of fluids, eat healthy. This strengthens your immune system.

you should read your scripture more and not go out in public. Get your “salvation” by yourself no one cares.

The H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus is terribly over-hyped. It's really no more dangerous in first-world nations than any other strain of influenza, and you're not very likely to catch it regardless. The masks are pointless, as the virus is small enough to get through them anyway, and anti-bacterial sanitizer is worthless against viruses. Just wash you and your baby's hands after the flight if you're concerned.

Avoid close contact.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay away from hospitals unless you're having an emergency, as hospitals could be one of the likeliest places you could be exposed to swine virus. Avoid visiting any public area unless it’s really necessary. Wear a mask when in crowded public places and when you go to the doctors. Skip public transportation. The Swine Flu Virus is spread through the air. Any place, such as a bus or plane, that causes you to be confined with others in a small place,

Practice other good health habits.

Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth. Wash your hands often, especially before, during, and after preparing food. Before you eat and after going to the bathroom. Use alcohol wipes to clean shopping carts handles, restaurant tables and high chairs.

Get Enough Rest.

Just like it becomes harder for you to get your daily tasks done if you're tired, if your body is overly fatigued it will be harder for it to fight the flu. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress and drink plenty of fluids.

Eat Garlic Regularly

Garlic does more than make our food taste good, it can aid in the healing and even prevention of certain medical conditions. Studies have shown that garlic extract improves immune function, giving our natural defense system a boost, and helping it conserve our levels of antioxidants in our system. It is this strengthening of the immune system that aids in its support for other health related conditions.

Exercise

Exercise increase circulation of blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of combating an intruders before it has a chance to cause havoc in your body. Exercising helps your immune system to be more efficient in weeding out and acting upon viruses and diseases.

Establish a healthy diet plan

Establish a consistent diet plan that consists of all your vitamins and minerals. Add diversity to your diet by way of implementing a variety of fruits, vegetables and other foods to promote general health and well being. Eat about 2 servings of yogurt, preferably the type with special digestive enzymes which promote the growth of healthy bacteria that is needed to aid in a healthy immune system. Green tea is also a world renown supplement which improves metabolic function and increases immunity.

“Tamiflu and Relenza …. They are also effective for prevention if given to healthy person that had contact with infected people. Antiviral drugs are 70% to 90% effective means of flu prevention” NO NO NO it isn’t true! Prevention doesn’t need drugs!

No, it's not that bad.

And no, not wearing masks at work (unless i have a patient on precautions that require me to wear a mask).

The swine flu is not that dangerous, which is why it fell out of the news for so long, it's been spreading this entire time, but is NOWHERE near as deadly as the regular flu.

No one can tell you for certain that swine flu will kill you. But, rest assured the majority of cases haven't even needed hospital treatment. The media and the Mexican government have somewhat skewed the death rate in Mexico because it's likely that the only cases they know of are the ones that resulted in death (i.e. people who were seek and survived never felt it necessary to seek medical attention and thus, those cases have gone unreported).

That said, since you have a heart condition, I would seek immediate medical attention if you start showing symptoms. The most common first sign of swine flu is a fever and body aches that come on suddenly. Suddenly is the key word here…this is not like a cold that takes a few days to start. Other signs are chills, sore throat, cough, and sometimes vomitting/diarrhea.

Swine flu is just another flu! If you have ever had the flu before, its no different! The only reson people are freaking out is because its spreading so fast. Just wash your hands, shower dailey, avoid crowded places, and keep your immune system good! Eat healthy stuff, avoid junk for now. If you do get the swine flu just see your doctor and stay in bed. If you're weak, old , or very young, theres a chance of dying. Make sure to have someone check on you at your house if you get it, because you may be to weak to do household chores like clean, feed a pet, feed yourself!

you are correct – excessive cleanliness is bad for you as it takes away your bodies opportunity to fight germs & build up natural immunity. Part of the reason there is increased asthma, eczema and allergies is the because of excessive cleanliness and use of artificial cleaners, deodarants, soaps etc

regular handwashing is essential before & after food preparation, after visiting the toilet, after dealing with animals and after contact with any bodily fluids.

In times of flu epidemic (or possible pandemic) you should also add handwashing as part of your routine after contact with infected people and after contact with fluids from mouth and nose (your own and other people).

yea they used bioweapons back then for example when the needed to invade a fortress or castles. They used catapults to threw in rotten corpses of animals to spread disease inside.

Use an N95 mask-but at this point it is not necessary.

Just wash you hands before eating or touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Avoid people who are coughing.

If you find out that their are cases in your area, start to avoid crowds

It is transmitted and spread just like a common cold….hand shaking kissing…snuggling…sharing drinks…even just standing in an elevator and getting coughed on. to prevent it….wash your hands constantly….stay clean. Use things like Purell and hand sanitizers. Cover your mouth when coughing, if it beings to get worse where you are in NYC try to avoid very very crowded places that's where this virus thrives. Last but not least if you start to see any of the symptoms at all go straight to the doctor and ask about tamiflu and relenza…though they are not vaccines they will help tamper down the symptoms and get you better quicker. If you feel sick…stay home, not a time to steal yourself and go to work anyways. Good luck.

News says it won't help to keep you from getting it, may help lessen things. They are making a new shot but won't be available for 2 months or so. It is spreading like wild fire. Just be careful being out. As a matter a fact I wouldn't go anywhere where there are lots of people. Schools are a hot spot. Wash hands constantly, keep your fingers out of your mouth and nose, don't kiss anybody or hug them because you just don't know if anybody near you, family, friends has it as they may not even know. Carry those little bottles of hand sanitizers and use it often. Worse place to contact viruses is on dept store shopping carts, money, door handles and of course shaking hands or kissing. Keep watching like Fox News or CNN for latest updates and precautions, and your local news stations. Good luck to you young lady and I certainly hope you don't get the swine flu. Eat lots of garlic and before going out, wash your hands, apply some vaseline inside the nostrils all around inside, that's what I do. I use the Garlic Tablet or mince up pure garlic bulbs. The tablets are not the odorless kind. Those may help blood pressure and cholesterol. It's the smell that germs and bugs don't like. If you ever have ants say show up on the Kitchen floor, take a garlic bulb, cut it in small pieces and lay where you think the ants are coming in and along the baseboard, no more ants.

because people are money hungry and with the world Recession nobody will shut down airports.
because the companies would lose billions of dollers from having to repay all the tickets, because of the delays, stoping plans/flights they would have to pay extra to staff because they cant work etc untill the world was cured its not just happening in america its happening all over the place usa australia new zealand imagine how many flights there are just between the 3 countries without adding england asia etc to it thats a shitload of money and time.
i no how you feel it's effecting a shitload of people and it sucks unfortunatly it isnt as easy as we would like it to be.
